4-Day Fly-In Drive-Out Serengeti and Ngorongoro Safari from Zanzibar
Fly from the beach to the Serengeti, then drive out through Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha
Overview
This is a strong short safari because it does not try to do everything. It focuses on Serengeti and Ngorongoro, which gives travellers real wildlife value in limited time.
This 4-Day Fly-In Drive-Out Serengeti and Ngorongoro Safari from Zanzibar is for travellers already on the island who want a serious northern Tanzania safari without a long road trip. You fly from Zanzibar straight to the Serengeti, spend two nights in Central Serengeti, cross to the Ngorongoro highlands, descend into the crater and then drive out to Arusha or Kilimanjaro.
It is short, but not thin. Central Serengeti is one of Tanzania's most reliable year-round wildlife areas, especially for big cats, and Ngorongoro Crater is a completely different safari world. Together they make one of the strongest short combinations in East Africa.
It suits honeymooners, couples and beach guests who want a luxury safari chapter before flying home, and anyone who wants to avoid a long road transfer at the start. Because it ends on the mainland, it connects naturally to international flights from Kilimanjaro.
The price starts at $2,814 per person, based on two nights at Signature Serengeti and one at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge, with the flight from Zanzibar and a private vehicle and guide. We confirm flight times, lodge availability and park fees before we quote.

Day 1
Fly from Zanzibar to Central Serengeti
After breakfast you are driven from your Zanzibar hotel to the airport for your scheduled flight to the Serengeti. The flight is the comfort of this trip: no long road approach, just a short hop from the beach to the plains.
Your Warriors of Africa Safari driver-guide meets you at the Serengeti airstrip and your first game drive begins straight away. The route depends on the airstrip, the flight time and where the wildlife is, but the aim is to start enjoying the Serengeti as soon as you land.
Central Serengeti is open plains, river valleys, kopjes and strong predator country. Depending on the season and some luck, you may see lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas and many birds.
In the late afternoon you continue to Signature Serengeti, a tented camp west of Seronera where every tent faces the sunset, for dinner and your first night in the wilderness.
Day 2
A full day in Central Serengeti
Today is all Central Serengeti, one of the most rewarding safari areas in Tanzania. Your guide will probably suggest an early start, when predators are most active and the light is soft for photographs.
The Seronera region and the central plains hold wildlife for much of the year, thanks to permanent water and a mix of habitats. The day can take in open plains, riverine woodland, kopjes and grassland, depending on conditions.
Your guide works for quality, not mileage: time with a pride of lions, scanning trees for leopards, following cheetahs across the plains, or sitting by a hippo pool. A packed lunch lets you stay out through the middle of the day.
In the late afternoon you return to Signature Serengeti for sundowners on the deck and a quiet evening. A second night in the same place gives a short safari depth, not just movement.
Day 3
Central Serengeti to Ngorongoro
After breakfast you leave Central Serengeti and drive towards the Ngorongoro highlands. It is a game-drive day as much as a transfer, with wildlife along the way as you cross the plains.
The country climbs from open grassland into the higher ground of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Your guide balances the sightings with arriving at the lodge at a comfortable hour.
Depending on the route and timing, there are chances for photography, short viewpoint stops and wildlife along the way, joining the Serengeti chapter to the crater one.
You arrive at Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge on the crater rim for dinner and an early night before tomorrow's descent.
Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater and drive out
After an early breakfast you descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive. Its dramatic walls hold one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa inside a natural amphitheatre.
On the crater floor you may see lions, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles, hippos, hyenas, elephants and, with luck, a black rhino. Grassland, swamp, forest and lake make it feel completely different from the open Serengeti.
Your guide plans the route around the wildlife, the light and the crater's timings. After a picnic lunch you climb out of the crater and drive towards Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport.
That is the end of your 4-Day Fly-In Drive-Out Serengeti and Ngorongoro Safari from Zanzibar. The drop-off can be Arusha town, Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport, agreed before you book.
Where you’ll sleep
Signature Serengeti
A newer luxury tented camp west of Seronera, with every tent facing due west for the sunset: king or twin beds, en-suite bathrooms, private decks, a pool, and dining and lounge tents with viewing decks.
Two nights in one place gives a short safari room to breathe, with the morning game drive starting where the wildlife already is.

Useful tips
- Pack soft for the flight
- The flight from Zanzibar is on a light aircraft with a soft-bag limit. If you have more luggage, we can arrange for it to meet you on the mainland.
- Agree the drop-off early
- Arusha town, Arusha Airport and Kilimanjaro International Airport each change the timing of Day 4. Tell us your onward flight before you book.
- Leave room before your flight
- The crater and the drive out take most of Day 4. Book onward flights for the evening, or add a night in Arusha.
- Bring warm layers for the rim
- Ngorongoro sits at over 2,000 m, and early mornings on the rim and crater floor are cold, even after a hot Serengeti day.
- Tips aren't included
- Gratuities for your driver-guide and lodge staff aren't part of the price, so set a little aside for them.
- Ask your doctor about malaria
- Discuss malaria prevention with your doctor before you travel, and bring insect repellent for the evenings.

When to go
This safari works year-round. Central Serengeti holds resident wildlife in most months, and Ngorongoro Crater is reliable in every season.
June to October brings dry-season visibility; January to March can bring the calving herds closer to the south of the park; the green months bring fresh landscapes and fewer vehicles.
If the Great Migration is your main goal, we adjust the route by season. This version focuses on Central Serengeti and the crater, not the northern river crossings.
Questions guests ask
Can I start this safari from Zanzibar?
Yes. It starts with a transfer from your Zanzibar hotel and a scheduled flight to the Serengeti.
Where does the safari end?
On the mainland, after the crater: Arusha town, Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport. Each changes the timing on Day 4, so we agree the drop-off before booking.
Does it include Ngorongoro Crater?
Yes. You spend the third night on the crater rim and descend for a game drive on Day 4.
Will I see the Great Migration?
This route focuses on Central Serengeti and the crater, not the northern river crossings. You may see migrating herds depending on the season, but it isn't a migration-crossing safari.
Is this good for honeymooners?
Yes. It turns a Zanzibar beach stay into a short luxury safari, with sunset-facing tents in the Serengeti and a night on the crater rim.
What luggage should I use?
Soft-sided bags for the light aircraft from Zanzibar. We confirm the baggage allowance for your flight.
Can the lodges be changed?
Yes. If Signature Serengeti or Ngorongoro Serena is full, or you want a different style, we suggest a lodge of similar or higher standard.
