14-Day Great Migration and Zanzibar Luxury Safari

Overview
This tour is for travellers who want a luxury migration safari but also want enough Zanzibar time to actually relax, not just tick the beach box.

It runs from Arusha through Tarangire, the Ngorongoro highlands, Central Serengeti and the northern Serengeti, then ends with five nights on Zanzibar.

The stays are Gran Meliá Arusha, The Retreat at Ngorongoro, Lion's Paw, Dove Serengeti, Mara Mara Tented Lodge and Nungwi Dreams by Mantis: a comfortable arrival, scenic safari bases and a strong beach stay.
The price starts at USD 7,837 per person. We reconfirm hotels, the flight and meal plans for your dates before we quote.

Day by day
Day 1
Arrival in Arusha
Your Warriors of Africa Safari team meets you at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport and drives you to your hotel. The day is kept easy so you can recover from the flight.
Depending on when you land, you may rest, use the hotel's pool and spa, have a quiet dinner or take a short safari briefing.
Gran Meliá Arusha, in coffee gardens below Mount Meru, gives the journey a calm, polished start.
Day 2
Tarangire, then the Ngorongoro highlands
After breakfast you meet your private driver-guide and head for Tarangire National Park, your first proper safari day.
Tarangire is elephant and baobab country, with wildlife drawn to the Tarangire River. You may see elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, antelope, lions and many birds, usually in a quieter atmosphere than the busier parks.
After the game drive you climb to the Karatu highlands for a night at The Retreat at Ngorongoro, a calm, green estate before the crater.
Day 3
The Ngorongoro area
Today is given to Ngorongoro. It usually includes a descent to the crater floor for a game drive among grassland, forest, swamp and lake; the final plan is confirmed against permits and timing.
If the crater is kept for another moment in the route, the day turns to the highlands' scenery and culture instead.
You spend the night at Ngorongoro Lion's Paw on the eastern crater rim, with views across the crater from the bar and lounge.
Day 4
Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti
After breakfast you leave the highlands and drop onto the Serengeti plains, with game viewing on the way.
Central Serengeti is one of the park's best year-round areas, known for lions, leopards and cheetahs.
You arrive at Dove Serengeti for your first evening in the Serengeti, where the safari begins to feel truly wild.
Day 5
A full day in Central Serengeti
Today belongs to Central Serengeti. An early start often pays off, with active predators, cool air and soft light.
Around Seronera, permanent water keeps wildlife here all year: lions on the kopjes, leopards in riverine trees, cheetahs on the plains, and elephants, giraffes, buffalo, hippos and hyenas.
A full day lets you slow down, wait at sightings and let the Serengeti reveal itself.
Day 6
Central to Northern Serengeti
After breakfast you drive north through changing Serengeti country, game-viewing all the way.
The north matters most in the river-crossing season, when the herds may gather as they move between Tanzania and Kenya's Maasai Mara. Crossings are natural events and can't be guaranteed, but this is where the best chance lies in season.
You arrive at Mara Mara Tented Lodge, near the Mara River, your base for three nights.
Day 7
The Great Migration in the north
Your guide plans the day around recent reports, herd movement, river activity and the tracks.
If the herds are near, you may watch them move and wait at safe viewing points by the river. The Mara is famous for dramatic crossings, but they take patience.
Even without a crossing, the north rewards you: lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and wide, beautiful landscapes.
Day 8
Another day in the northern Serengeti
A second full day means you don't depend on one chance. Your guide may explore the river, open plains, woodland or quiet valleys, depending on the wildlife.
Some of the best safari moments come when there is time to wait rather than rush.
Back at Mara Mara in the evening for your last night in the north, by the campfire.
Day 9
Fly from the Serengeti to Zanzibar
After breakfast you transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar, subject to the final routing and availability. The rhythm of the trip changes completely, from wilderness to island coast.
In Zanzibar you are met and driven to Nungwi on the northern tip of the island: white sand, blue water, restaurants and some of the island's best sunsets.
You check in at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis and have the rest of the day to slow down.
Day 10
Zanzibar beach day
A free day: no early departures, no long drives. Sleep in, take breakfast slowly and enjoy the pool or the beach.
Optional activities include snorkelling, diving, a sunset cruise, Stone Town, a spice tour or a marine excursion, depending on the sea and your mood.
For many guests the best choice is to do very little. A strong safari deserves recovery time.
Day 11
Zanzibar at leisure
Another day of your own: a quiet resort day, or one experience if you want more activity.
Nungwi has more energy than the island's quieter coasts, with restaurants, sunset views and ocean trips close by, but still plenty of space to relax.
We can help you choose something to match your mood: culture, ocean, food, history or romance.
Day 12
A Zanzibar experience
Time for one of Zanzibar's signature experiences: Stone Town, a spice farm, a snorkelling trip, a sunset dhow cruise or a quiet private beach dinner.
Couples often choose a sunset cruise or a special dinner; culture lovers, Stone Town; ocean lovers, snorkelling or diving when conditions are good.
Don't overfill the island days: after a full safari, Zanzibar should feel like a reward.
Day 13
Last full day in Zanzibar
Your final full day: the resort, a beach walk, the spa, a little souvenir shopping, or one last excursion.
With a flight tomorrow, keep it gentle unless your departure is late.
Spend the evening watching your last island sunset.
Day 14
Departure from Zanzibar
After breakfast you check out and transfer to Zanzibar Airport for your onward flight, with a relaxed morning if your flight is later.
That is the end of your 14-Day Great Migration and Zanzibar Luxury Safari with Warriors of Africa Safari: Tanzania's wilderness and Zanzibar's ocean in one complete journey.

When to go
The trip is strongest when the migration is expected in the northern Serengeti, usually July to October. Movement depends on the rain, so crossings are never promised.
Outside those months it still works as a Serengeti and Zanzibar luxury trip, with the migration focus moved by season: the south and Ndutu are stronger in calving season, while Central Serengeti is good all year.
If a Mara River crossing is the dream, book early: northern camps fill quickly in peak months.
Questions guests ask
Why three nights in the north?
Crossings can't be scheduled. Three nights in the northern Serengeti mean you don't depend on a single day, which gives the migration a much better chance.
When is the best time for this trip?
July to October, when the herds are usually around the Mara River. Outside those months it works as a Serengeti and Zanzibar luxury trip, with the migration focus moved to where the herds are.
How do I get from the Serengeti to Zanzibar?
By scheduled light aircraft from a Serengeti airstrip, subject to final routing and availability. Bags should be soft and within the airline's allowance.
Is Day 3 a crater day?
Usually, yes. The crater descent is confirmed against permits and timing; if it moves, Day 3 turns to the highlands' scenery and culture.
What can I do on Zanzibar?
Relax, or add snorkelling, diving, a sunset dhow cruise, Stone Town, a spice tour or a private beach dinner. Activities are optional and paid separately.
Is the price fixed?
USD 7,837 per person is a starting price. We reconfirm the hotels, the flight and the meal plans for your dates before the final quote.
