Why we use this property
Katavi Wildlife Camp is the base of our 6-Day Katavi Fly-In Wilderness Safari, run by the Fox family's Foxes Safari Camps, who also fly guests in on their own Safari Air Link. It stands on the edge of the Katisunga Plain, between the miombo woodland and the grassland near the Katuma River, close to the main airstrip. There are six en-suite Meru-style tents under makuti thatch, each with a wide veranda, hammocks and seating that look straight out over the plain, and two family suites, each a pair of large tents sharing a private plunge pool, for up to six guests. The two-storey thatched lounge and dining area doubles as a lookout. Power is solar, with solar-heated water in every tent. The camp is unfenced, so Maasai guides walk guests to and from their tents after dark. Days are spent on half- or full-day game drives along the Katisunga circuit and down to the Ikuu River's hippo pools, on guided walks and picnic lunches, with sundowners by the Katuma River; private vehicles can be booked.
