Why we use this property
Kigelia Ruaha is the classic-camp upgrade on our 7-Day Nyerere and Ruaha Fly-In Safari, run by Nomad Tanzania and named for the sausage trees, Kigelia africana, in and around camp. It is a small, understated bush camp in the eastern heart of the park, where the wildlife is most concentrated, on the bank above the dry bed of the Ifuguru sand river, where elephants come to dig for water. There are six light, airy safari tents under shaggy thatch, one of them a large family tent, each en-suite with a bucket shower and its own star bed on a raised platform for sleeping out under a mosquito net. Meals are often taken in the riverbed itself, and four of the camp team work with Lion Landscapes on its carnivore sightings programme. Kigelia opens from June to March.
