Why we use this property
Ruaha River Lodge is the Ruaha base of our 7-Day Nyerere and Ruaha Fly-In Safari, run by the Fox family's Foxes Safari Camps. It opened in January 1982 as the first lodge in Ruaha National Park, and for two decades it was the only one, which is how it came to hold such a fine position on the Great Ruaha River, far from any other camp. There are 24 stone bandas set in riverine acacia forest, each en-suite with uninterrupted views of the water and a large private wooden deck stepping down to a seating area on the riverbank. Hot water is solar-heated and power comes from solar and generators, so it is not on around the clock. Elephants walk through camp, and Maasai guides escort guests between the rooms and the main areas. Game drives, guided walks along the river, bush breakfasts, riverbank sundowners at the fire pit and fly camping can all be arranged, with private vehicles on request. Foxes also run Safari Air Link, the airline that connects Ruaha with Nyerere and Dar es Salaam. It is also the Ruaha stay on our 10-Day Nyerere, Ruaha and Zanzibar Safari.
